Program Description
Event Details
Before modern-day social assistance programs, nearly every county in Michigan — including Midland — had a Poor Farm or Poorhouse to help care for citizens of all ages.
Library of Michigan Community Engagement Librarian Adam Oster has extensively researched Michigan poor farms and will share their history with us: who they cared for, how their clientele changed over time, how they fit within Michigan's system of government, and how to uncover information about an ancestor who resided at a Michigan poor farm.
This in-person event for history buffs and genealogists alike takes place at the Midland Genealogical Society meeting on Wednesday, February 15, at 7pm in the Orchard Room. Registration is not required, but please feel free to sign up at gadml.librarycalendar.com if you would like an email reminder.
This program is sponsored by the Midland Genealogical Society (http://mimgs.org/) and will also include information about the society and its happenings. It is free and open to the public.
