Event Details
Decorate a gourd or pumpkin, real or artificial, to go along with the theme "Fall into Reading!" Use your imagination! Create your favorite book character or a scene with your entry! The sky is the limit!
Bring your decorated gourd to the Library between October 11 and 14.
Decorate your gourd any way you want using paint, paper, oil pastels, yarn ... wherever your creativity takes you! Use your imagination to create a book character or a scene from a story you love. Return the gourd decorated on its own or part of a diorama.
Maximum entry size is 18 inches wide by 18 inches high by 18 inches deep.
Voting for the best-decorated gourds will take place October 15 through October 31, and voting slips will be located at the Reference desk. Voting will be completed by age group to ensure a fair competition — we can't expect the adults to keep up with the kids! Entries by Children 5th grade and under, Teens 6th-12th grade, and Adults/Families will be voted on separately.
On November 1, two lucky winners will be selected from each group to receive a prize! Each age group will have a “people’s choice” winner and a “staff picks” winner. Entries will be available for pickup from November 1-5.
We will have a limited number of gourds available for patrons on a first-come, first-served basis starting on October 3. Call 989-837-3449 to check on availability. Entries must include a pumpkin or gourd, real or artificial, but are not required to include a gourd from the library.
